Public View 3 of 3 process
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009ThisCityArt’s final show from a series of 3 invited people to answer simple questions about Beijing to create a common starting point for 2 distinctly different artists. The response’s were deconstructed using techniques inspired from the DaDa art movement and reformed into twisted descriptions of the city we all experience.

The Art of Façade
Monday, March 30th, 2009Click on image to see more…. Photography by Oak Taylor-Smith
Since the lead up to the Beijing Games in 2008, the city was a building site and temporary façades were everywhere. In an attempt to brighten the place up, whole landscapes were erected along walls, around the constructions of new metro stations and over the nations great institutions (some strangely under reconstruction when the world was visiting).
Much like the early and classical landscape paintings, these temporary cultural landscapes exhibit the skills and aesthetic of designers who are employed to create a brighter, harmonious community.
In photographing these landscapes in their final setting, often at odds with the reality around them, the result can be strangely beautiful and sometimes surreal.
